CEDAR for SADiE

There are two reasons why CEDAR provides a powerful range of restoration tools to run on other manufacturers' products. Firstly, there are those processes that are not suitable for real-time processing, and for which the ability to load, store and analyse the audio is of great benefit. Secondly, there are those users for whom a single, integrated approach to restoration and mastering is most suitable.

The science of eliminating coughs, scuffs, page turns, creaky piano pedals, and even car horns

"Particularly rewarding was a ringing telephone over a solo piano recording, which I've always used to demonstrate just what is NOT possible in denoise technology! Retouch removed it both in ambience and above a piano chord - amazing!"

Simon Gibson, Abbey Road, March 2002

CEDAR Retouch is a huge leap forward in sound processing technology. Unlike conventional restoration tools, Retouch allows you to define the temporal and spectral content of the sound you want to remove. This makes it possible to identify noises as varied as coughs, squeaky chairs, page turns, the creak of a piano pedal and even car horns.

Once identified, unwanted sounds are replaced seamlessly with audio that matches the surrounding signal. All other audio remains untouched.

Retouch is compatible with SADiE4.2. It operates on audio sampled at up to 96kHz and offers 64-bit internal resolution.

In photography, "retouching" is the art of identifying and removing unwanted blemishes from a picture to produce a perfect image. CEDAR Retouch brings this concept into the audio world, allowing you to remove unwanted acoustic events from a signal.

When all else fails... Retouch gives you complete control.

  ... and declick 96

With both manual- and auto- declick capabilities, SADiE declick performs at high speed without sacrificing CEDAR quality, and addresses the widest possible range of scratch and click removal problems. auto declick allows the user to process part or all of an entire playlist as an off-line process. Remarkably, there is no need for user-controls, and the automatic process will cope with even the most severely damaged audio. manual declick incorporates a new algorithm capable of restoring clicks and other problems - such as drop-outs and digital errors - of up to 2,000 samples duration. It uses SADiE's region editing feature to highlight the damaged audio, and is particularly suitable for repairing optical soundtracks. It is also ideal for restoring audio that suffers from problems for which standard declick algorithms are not optimised. SADiE declick is an ideal complement to CEDAR's range of real-time click- and crackle- removal processes.

  ... and decrackle 96

SADiE users asked us for a full set of world-class audio restoration tools, and CEDAR decrackle for SADiE completes a suite comprising all the major tools that you need. Indeed, decrackle doesn't only remove the tiny clicks, crackles and "grunge" from vintage discs and vinyl LPs... it removes many types of buzz, and can be extremely effective at reducing amplitude distortions. With no parameters for you to worry about, CEDAR's adaptive algorithms will identify and remove all of these noises automatically, making it as applicable to film soundtrack restoration, audio forensics and broadcast as it is to traditional audio restoration jobs such as CD remastering.

  ... and dethump 96

dethump is unique - no other process can analyse and restore damaged signal of up to 50,000 samples (approximately one second) duration. This makes dethump the world's best tool for removing many of the previously intractible problems associated with optical soundtracks, as well as for restoring damaged cylinders and discs. For modern material, dethump will cure microphone thumps and remove many other low-frequency disturbances within the signal.

DeNoise is a sophisticated process that uses an enhanced version of spectral subtraction to identify and remove broadband noise from recordings.

Users can manipulate the noise reduction curve using the mouse, and this makes DeNoise particularly versatile - suitable for restoring vintage soundtracks and 78rpm discs (which have highly coloured noise spectra) as well as modern recordings on good quality media.

The SADiE user interface allows you to manipulate many other aspects of DeNoise in real-time. This means that you can audition the results while the audio is playing, making the process quick and simple, and helping to ensure that you achieve high quality results every time.
